Maycom Audio Systems acquired by Solid Semecs
Dutch (portable) audio manufacturer Maycom Audio Systems B.V. has transferred its brand-related activities, production, research & development, marketing and sales to Solid Semecs B.V., in Uden.
Maycom Audio Systems made its way in the pro-audio market with the world's first digital solid state portable audio recorder (the MPEG-2 based Digicorder) in 1994 - its follow-up, the Easycorder was launched in 1998 and has become a household tool for radio stations worldwide.
"We already teamed up with Solid Semecs for some of our activities and when we felt that Solid Semecs was keen in investing extra funds we needed for the development of our new version of the 'HandHeld' recorder, we were happy that Solid Semecs wanted to go all the way with us by acquiring our brand-related activities.", says Dave Groeneveld, Director at Maycom Audio Systems.
Part from the advantage of a new investor, Groeneveld also sees a bonus in the synergy within the Solid Semecs structure. "One of the companies asquired by Solid Semecs is Roto -Systems, a R&D-based unit with some 30 engineers developing new products. Whereas Solid Semecs is more of the 'high volume-low mix' type, with production units in Slovakia, Hungary, Germany and Holland, Maycom will certainly benefit from the synergy with Roto Systems, who manufacture 'high mix-low volume'.", adds Groeneveld.
Within the new constellation, Maycom Audio Systems, subsidiary of Solid Semecs, will introduce new products like the MicTube and a low budget MP3-Reporterkit, specially designed and priced to function as a MD-killer
Señor Sykes from Spain: "When you see my HandHeld, you'll notice a slight scratch on the top edge of the case - that was when the unit fell out of my trouser pocket when I was travelling at about 40 kmph on the motor-bike to visit a local politician for an interview. The unit scattered across the road - battery, rear lid, main unit, all over the tarmac. I jumped off the bike, scrambled back to pick it all up before some car could perhaps run over it, as the road was quite busy; I put it back together, and it STILL works perfectly, day after day, two months after the incident!!
The ability and ease of recording in digits is now essential for the daily operation of Spectrum FM and my voiceover work, so I can't be without some kind of portable digital recorder for even a day !"
Now it is finally here! The ultimate solution for the travelling reporter. The Easycorder/Capsat Messenger combination.
The Easycorder from Maycom is a state of
the art flashcard recorder. It makes it easier than ever to store and edit
interviews on the spot.
The Capsat® Messenger is the latest
Inmarsat satellite terminal from Danish manufacturer Thrane & Thrane.
It makes it possible to transmit data with speeds of up to 64Kbps from
anywhere in the world.

The combination of the two products offers an unprecedented opportunity for any reporter operating in areas where no immediate communications infrastructure is present. Via the ISDN interface on the Capsat Messenger one can easily transmit interviews stored on the Easycorder directly into the studio. In the Easycorder you simply enter the number you want to dial in to. Then you choose if you want to make a live call or transfer a recorded item. If the latter is chosen, you can select the item that you want to transfer, and then you simply send it.
There is no longer any need for rushing
back to the hotel or to a telephone booth when a reporter wants to transmit
a recorded interview back to the studio. Now you can transmit it right
then getting breaking news back to the studio before the competitors.
